Resilience, Transformation, and Connection
My Creative Framework is built on three pillars—Resilience, Transformation, and Connection—each representing core themes in my work.
- Resilience focuses on strength and endurance through time and adversity.
- Transformation reflects the inevitable change and evolution in nature and life.
- Connection emphasizes the deep bonds between people, places, and time.
Peer-Reviewed Research
Each of these peer-reviewed articles supports elements of my creative framework’s pillars. They show that resilience can be symbolized and strengthened by nature’s endurance, transformation is mirrored in natural cycles of change, and connection – between self, others, nature, and the past – is fundamental to human well-being. The research spans psychology (empirical studies and therapy approaches), art therapy theory, and philosophy, all converging on the powerful role of nature metaphors and experiences in capturing the themes of strength, growth, and interconnectedness. Each source is open-access, allowing further reading into how science and scholarship underpin the framework’s metaphors of “Endurance in Nature,” “Metamorphosis,” “Harmony with Nature,” and more.
Resilience
- White et al. (2023) – Nature-based biopsychosocial resilience: An integrative theoretical framework for research on nature and health (Environment International, open access) – This paper proposes that contact with natural settings (e.g., forests, gardens, water) can bolster resilience. It outlines how natural ecosystems and elements help individuals build adaptive resources to cope with stress and adversity. This supports metaphors like “Endurance in Nature” and “Quiet Strength,” as the enduring presence of trees, plants, and natural features enhances our capacity to withstand challenges. [link]
- Sheridan & Van Lith (2024) – Exploring the Impact of Metaphors on Resilience in Art Therapy Using Mixed Methods (Journal of Creativity in Mental Health) – This study found that using metaphors in art-making with individuals who experienced chronic stress or trauma can enhance psychological resilience. Participants who created art with metaphorical imagery (e.g., painting a sturdy tree to represent personal strength) reported greater emotional insight and an improved ability to “redefine” their life narratives after the intervention. The findings highlight how creative metaphors of nature’s resilience (like a tree’s steadfastness) can be therapeutic, lending empirical support to the “Steadfastness” theme in the resilience pillar. [link]
- Katz et al. (2021) – Land and nature as sources of health and resilience among Indigenous youth in an urban Canadian context: a photovoice exploration (BMC Public Health, open access) – This research with Indigenous youth showed that nature serves as a powerful symbol of resilience and hope. Through a photovoice project, youths identified themes such as “nature as a calming place,” “building metaphors of resilience,” and “providing a sense of hope” in their urban environment. For example, a photograph of a flower growing through concrete became a metaphor for overcoming hardship. The study supports the idea of natural endurance and “Quiet Strength” – nature’s capacity to thrive despite adversity inspired the youths’ own resilience. [link]
Transformation
- Allison et al. (2019) – The Metamorphosis of the Hero: Principles, Processes, and Purpose (Frontiers in Psychology, open access) – This article examines transformation as a profound change analogous to metamorphosis in nature. It discusses how personal growth often mirrors natural cycles, noting that “metamorphic change pervades the natural world, from the changing of the seasons to biological growth and decay”. The authors describe heroic transformation as involving challenge, a “death” of the old self, and the emergence of a wiser self – much like a caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly. This supports metaphors like “Cycles of Renewal” and “Metamorphosis,” illustrating how humans evolve through phases of change over time, reflecting nature’s rhythms. [link]
- Gulbe et al. (2025) – Exploring nature-based art therapy: a scoping review (Frontiers in Psychology, open access) – This review maps out how incorporating nature into art therapy fosters personal growth and emotional healing. It found that nature-based art therapy can promote “self-discovery and personal growth” and strengthen one’s sense of belonging to a larger world. For instance, engaging creatively with natural materials and motifs helps clients process life changes and see their struggles as part of bigger natural cycles. The therapeutic value of experiencing “nature’s rhythms and processes supports the ‘Passage of Time’ theme – clients often draw parallels between seasons changing and their own evolving life stages, embracing transformation as a natural, continuous cycle. [link]
Connection
- Lengieza & Swim (2021) – The Paths to Connectedness: A Review of the Antecedents of Connectedness to Nature (Frontiers in Psychology, open access) – This paper highlights the deep interconnectedness between humans and nature. It notes that environmental philosophers and psychologists converge on the idea that people benefit from including nature as part of their sense of self. Individuals who feel “at one” with nature (in line with Arne Naess’s deep ecology view of self-in-nature) tend to have better well-being and more concern for others and the environment. This supports the “Harmony with Nature” metaphor – emphasizing that seeing ourselves as fundamentally connected with the natural world can foster empathy, community, and a sense of unity with all life. [link]
- Guo (2024) – Confucian thought of “Harmony between Man and Nature” and contemporary society (Trans/Form/Ação, open access) – This philosophy article explores the ancient Confucian ideal of living in harmony with nature. The Confucian notion describes an integrated view of the world where humans and the natural environment form one harmonious whole. It underscores “a harmonious and integrated perspective on nature” and prioritizes collective well-being over individual interest. By examining this worldview’s evolution and relevance today, the article provides a cultural-philosophical foundation for “Roots and Bonds” and “Harmony with Nature.” It shows that the idea of deep bonds uniting people, their ancestors (“roots”), and the natural world has been valued for millennia as a source of moral guidance and social cohesion – essentially an “Echo of the Past” reminding us of our interdependence with nature and each other. [link]
- Katz et al. (2021) – (Also listed under Resilience) – In addition to resilience, the photovoice study with Indigenous youth demonstrated the importance of connection to place and heritage. Youths spoke of how being in touch with urban green spaces helped them feel connected to their culture and community despite city life. Nature provided a bridge between their modern experiences and traditional values, echoing connections to ancestors and land. This finding reinforces the “Roots and Bonds” metaphor – the idea that our roots (cultural, familial, ecological) ground us and that maintaining a bond with nature and history can be deeply healing and unifying. (See Katz et al., 2021 above for details. [link]

Quantum Science (Beyond The Visible) Books
In essence, Quantum Science reveals that reality is not fixed or absolute but is shaped by invisible interactions, probabilities, and the influence of observation. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of all things, aligns with ideas of transformation, and suggests that much of reality exists beyond human perception, waiting to be revealed through interaction and observation.
Here is a summary of the main ideas of Quantum Science:
Wave-Particle Duality
- Subatomic particles, like electrons and photons, behave both as particles and waves, depending on how they are observed. This duality reveals that matter and energy are not strictly one or the other but can exist in multiple states simultaneously.
Superposition
- A quantum system can exist in multiple states at once until it is measured or observed. This concept, illustrated by Schrödinger’s cat, demonstrates that potential realities coexist until one outcome becomes definite.
Entanglement
- When two particles become entangled, their states are connected, no matter the distance between them. A change in one instantly affects the other, highlighting the idea of non-locality and interconnectedness.
Uncertainty Principle
- Proposed by Heisenberg, this principle states that certain properties, such as the position and momentum of a particle, cannot be measured simultaneously with precision. The more precisely one is known, the less precise the other becomes, revealing the limits of observation.
Observation and Reality
- In quantum mechanics, the act of observation affects the outcome of an experiment. This raises questions about the nature of reality and whether things exist in definite states before being observed.
Probability and Indeterminacy
- Quantum mechanics deals with probabilities rather than certainties. The outcome of a quantum event cannot be predicted with absolute certainty, only with probability distributions.
Quantum Field Theory
- This theory expands quantum mechanics, suggesting that particles are excitations in fields that permeate space. The behavior of particles and interactions are governed by these underlying fields.
Quantum Energy and Transformation
- Energy at the quantum level is not continuous but quantized—it comes in discrete packets. This idea emphasizes that change at the quantum level happens in jumps and shifts rather than smooth transitions.
Quantum Science and Quantum Healing
Quantum healing is based on the idea that the body, mind, and consciousness are interconnected at a fundamental level, similar to the principles of Quantum Science, where everything exists in a state of interconnected energy and potential. It emphasizes that healing is not just physical but occurs through shifts in energy, perception, and consciousness, aligning the body’s natural state with health and well-being.
Core Concepts of Quantum Healing
Mind-Body Connection
- The mind and body are deeply intertwined. Thoughts, emotions, and beliefs can influence physical health by impacting the body’s biochemical and energetic state.
Consciousness as a Healing Force
- Consciousness plays a key role in healing. Just as observation impacts outcomes in quantum mechanics, attention and intention can influence health outcomes by shifting energy at a subtle level.
Energy Flow and Balance
- Health is achieved when the body’s energy flows harmoniously. Blocked or stagnant energy can lead to disease, while restoring flow through techniques like meditation, breathwork, and visualization promotes healing.
Holistic Approach
- Quantum healing recognizes that well-being extends beyond the physical body. Emotional, mental, and spiritual health are considered equally essential in restoring balance and healing.
Spontaneous Healing and Potential
- Like superposition in quantum mechanics, the body exists in a state of potential where multiple healing outcomes are possible. Under the right conditions—such as changes in belief or consciousness—the body can shift toward spontaneous healing.
Interconnectedness of Life
- Quantum healing emphasizes the interconnectedness of all things. Just as particles can influence each other across distances through entanglement, healing can extend beyond the individual to affect relationships and the environment.
Healing as Transformation
- Quantum healing is viewed as a transformative process. Illness represents an opportunity for personal growth, and healing involves not just fixing the body but shifting one’s entire perception of self and life.
In summary, Quantum Healing integrates the principles of Quantum Science—such as energy, interconnectedness, and transformation—with holistic health practices. It suggests that healing occurs through a shift in consciousness and energy flow, aligning the body and mind with their natural potential for well-being. This approach encourages individuals to tap into unseen forces within themselves, just as quantum science reveals hidden layers of reality waiting to be observed and realized.
Chopra, D., Tuszynski, J., & Fertig, B. (2023). Quantum Body: The New Science of Living a Longer, Healthier, More Vital Life. New York, NY: Ebury Publishing. [Amazon]
This book explores how quantum science influences health and well-being by exploring the concept of the “quantum body” as a source of vitality beyond the physical body. The collaboration between Chopra, a physicist, and an endocrinologist offers new perspectives on aging, wellness, and the mind-body connection through a series of seven breakthroughs.
In an unprecedented collaboration between three of today’s most powerful minds, Deepak Chopra, M.D., teams up with physicist Jack Tuszynski, Ph.D., and endocrinologist Brian Fertig, M.D., to bring readers a visionary work that delves into the innovative world of quantum science and shows how unlocking its secrets can revolutionize how we live and age—and, ultimately, how we can eradicate disease. The key is the quantum body.
Unlike our physical body, which is subject to aging, injury, and decay, the quantum body exists on a sub-atomic level and is the infinite, invisible source of everyday reality that affects your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and biological responses. Without your quantum body, there is no physical body. And this lack of awareness of the most crucial part of ourselves negatively impacts our lives every day.

Laszlo, E. (2007). Science and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of Everything. Rochester, VT: Inner Traditions. [Amazon]
Ervin Laszlo, twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, is editor of the international periodical World Futures: The Journal of General Evolution and Chancellor-Designate of the newly formed GlobalShift University. He is the founder and president of the global think tanks, the Club of Budapest, and the General Evolution Research Group, and the author of 83 books translated into 21 languages.
Laszlo introduces the concept of a quantum-based Akashic field, which holds information about all experiences, hinting at its potential for healing and personal growth. Irvin Laszlo’s “Science and the Akashic Field” discusses his theory that there is more to reality than the physical realm of modern science. His central point is this: “We need to recognize the presence of a factor that is neither matter nor energy. The importance of this factor is now acknowledged not only in the human and social sciences but also in the physical and life sciences. It is information – information as a real and effective factor setting the parameters of the universe at its birth and thereafter governing the evolution of its basic elements into complex systems … It is the presence of information throughout the cosmos, carried and conveyed by the universal in-formation field we have named the Akashic field.”
Maxwell, N. (2017) Karl Popper, Science, and Enlightenment [Free PDF]
Overview: “Here is an idea that just might save the world. It is that science, properly understood, provides us with the methodological key to the salvation of humanity. A version of this idea can be found in the works of Karl Popper. Famously, Popper argued that science cannot verify theories but can only refute them, and this is how science makes progress. Scientists are forced to think up something better, and it is this, according to Popper, that drives science forward.
But Nicholas Maxwell finds a flaw in this line of argument. Physicists only ever accept theories that are unified – theories that depict the same laws applying to the range of phenomena to which the theory applies – even though many other empirically more successful disunified theories are always available. This means that science makes a questionable assumption about the universe, namely that all disunified theories are false. Without some such presupposition as this, the whole empirical method of science breaks down.
By proposing a new conception of scientific methodology, which can be applied to all worthwhile human endeavors with problematic aims, Maxwell argues for a revolution in academic inquiry to help humanity make progress towards a better, more civilized, and enlightened world.”
